France Cancer, our new partner
France Cancer is a non-profit organisation created in 2003 by a couple of wigmakers from Cannes, moved by a part of their clientele affected by the disease. The goal was and keeps being to collect funds for the research against cancer. It is now composed of 100 members and dozens of volunteers in the whole country.
In order to collect funds, the France Cancer organization decided to collect wine corks as well as champagne corks. Individuals and professionals are also involved to make donations. Wine corks are sold and are then crushed to be turned into insulation panels for buildings and houses. Within 5 years, the organization managed to collect about 100 tons of corks, worth 30 000€. Research can move forward thanks to this type of involvment. France Cancer works with two research teams from Alpes Maritimes:
the CNRS and the INSERM. Since its creation, France Cancer managed to give those research teams about 200 000€.
The collection points allow this organization to collect numerous corks. Indeed, restaurants, bars, vineyards are big wine bottles consumers and epitomize a high potential in terms of collections. Especially because those corks are useless once the bottle is open.
Our hotel Hameau Albert 1er decided to join the movement in order to use corks wisely. The Quartz Bar, the Maison Carrier and l’Albert 1er will contribute significantly to this corks collection. We look forward to playing a role in this beautiful project and to fighting against cancer.
